Those three questions are not arbitrary. Size matters because resin has to travel to the tip of every leg of the break under pressure, and past roughly a quarter the fill gets unreliable. Distance from the edge matters because the outer inch or two of the pane sits over the urethane that bonds it to the body, and that strip is structural: it holds the glass in during a rollover and gives the passenger airbag something to push against, so damage there is not something a repair restores. Position matters because a filled break leaves a faint mark, and a faint mark directly in the driver's line of sight is a distraction you will notice at night in the rain for as long as you own the car.
