$250 to $450 fitted and about an hour of glass work, five minutes down Frankford Avenue from most of East Kensington. The reason the fitting matters more than the price is structural: a bonded windshield stiffens the body shell, carries load through the roof in a rollover, and gives the passenger airbag a surface to deploy against. That is what the money buys, not a sheet of glass in a hole.

A windshield stopped being a weather shield decades ago. It is glued to the body with urethane and it carries load. On many vehicles a real share of the roof's crush resistance runs through that bond, and the passenger airbag inflates upward and forward against the inside of the glass, which means a windshield that lets go takes the airbag's backstop with it. That is the whole argument for doing this job properly, and it explains why the corners people cut are all in places you will never see from the driver's seat.
The visible parts are easy: a clean new pane and straight trim. The parts that decide whether the bond holds happen in the ten minutes before the glass goes down. Old urethane is trimmed to a thin, even base rather than scraped back to bare metal; any metal that does get exposed is primed so it cannot rust under the new bead; the bead itself goes down in one continuous pass with the corners closed rather than being stitched together from two runs. Then the glass is set once and left alone, not slid into position afterwards. On a mild day the safe drive-away time is around an hour. On a cold one it is longer, and you are told which before you make plans around it.
“Rich is amazing! Helped me with a broken window. He was able to get me in same day and did beautiful work at an incredible price point. I literally tell everyone now to go to him if they need anything done.”

The roads on this side do the damage long before the glass reaches the shop. East Kensington sits under the elevated line along its western edge and against the old rail corridor on the other, and the pavement around both takes a beating: patched squares, sunken trench cuts, block paving with rail still set into it on the streets over toward Trenton Avenue, and Lehigh Avenue carrying trucks across the top of the neighborhood. A car doing four blocks here flexes more than one doing four miles of I-95, and flex is what turns a stable chip into a crack across the driver's view. The compensation is distance: the shop is five minutes down Frankford Avenue, so a cracked windshield never has to go near a highway to get replaced.
Same service, same price, other Fishtown neighborhoods:
About an hour in mild weather, longer when it is cold or very dry, and you get the actual number for the day rather than a standard line. Three things to respect for the rest of that day: leave a window down an inch so slamming a door cannot pressurize the cabin against a fresh bead, close doors gently, and stay off the car wash for a couple of days. If tape has been left across the top edge holding the moldings while the bead sets, leave it there until the evening.
Not if it was fitted properly, and both faults trace back to the same handful of causes: a bonding surface that was not clean, an old bead left uneven so the glass sat proud in one corner, a molding that never seated, or a corroded pinchweld that the bead could not grip. None of those are things you can see. What you can do is tell us early. A whistle at 45 or a damp headliner in the first weeks is worth bringing back rather than living with, and it is a great deal easier to correct then than a year later.
